Necessary Knowledge, Abilities, Skills, & Responsibilities:
Must be at least 21 years old and have a valid Illinois Driver’s License. High School graduate or General Education Degree (GED) required. One to three (1-3) years progressive responsibility in park/grounds maintenance with supervisory experience preferred. Knowledge of vehicle mechanics and use of lawn mowers, tractors and other related field use equipment is preferred. Successful candidate must be approachable and have good communication skills. Must be able to work with a positive attitude both independently or as part of a team. Will work with the tools needed to maintain open lands, green space, indoor and outdoor athletic and recreation facilities, and office space.
Area of Responsibility includes:
General
- Maintains Personal Protective equipment keeping it updated and safe.
- Ability to work independently in day-to-day operations with general direction from the Superintendent of Parks and Facilities.
- Provides training, coaching, directing, supervising and evaluating performance in areas of park maintenance.
- Provides input into the decision making process for hiring, disciplining, or terminating maintenance staff.
- Responsible for other duties as assigned
- Willingness to work some evening and weekend hours is required.
Building/facility (Assist Superintendent)
- Electrical, Plumbing, Carpentry, Painting, Janitorial
- Over sees staff and their responsibilities
- Over sees maintenance room
- Special event set-up and take down (Assists all staff)

- Building

Maintain all animal habitats (Over Sees)
- Two fish tanks
- Lizard cage

- Feed and care for all animals
Inspections (Assist Superintendent)
- Building/facility inspections
- Park and grounds inspections
- High & Low frequency playground inspections
- Vehicle inspections
- Sled hill inspections
- Ice inspections
- Exercise equipment inspections
- Ball field inspections
- Path and trail inspections
Vehicle/Equipment (Over Sees)
- Vehicle Cleaning
- Equipment maintenance
Playground (Assist Superintendent)
- Playground repairs and maintenance
Parks (Over Sees)
- Park Checks, Paper picking, Trash removal
- Picnic table maintenance
- Shelter maintenance
- Pond maintenance
- General maintenance
Landscaping (Assist Superintendent)
- Turf repairs
- Tree and shrub planting, trimming, watering and removal
- Garden preparation including planting, weeding and watering
